What is Guided Visualization

What is usually missed by most of us when trying to get better at a particular sport or achieving greater sport specific fitness, is the impact of the mind-body connection. It is just as important to train the mind as it is to train the body. Guided visualization can do that for you. Guided visualization is what all of the top athletes do to keep the body calm and focused during stressful times and to visualize the body doing sports specific movements such as a golf swing with perfection or perfect ski turns. “The body achieves what the mind believes. ”

This can be done to improve skiing performance by visualizing yourself skiing a perfect mogul run. The visualization works by helping to create better muscle memory for the specific movements needed to complete the task perfectly. It can also improve one’s confidence or ability to maintain a sense of calm in situations where one would normally sit back on the skis. Here are some helpful tips for creating a visualization that can work to help improve your skiing.

See it as if it is happening right now.

Make it as real as possible. You need to really feel as if you are in the moment.

Include all of the senses. You need to feel it, smell it, hear it, etc

It needs to be done every day.
