Office Yoga – 4 Simple exercises you can do at your desk for good posture and stress relief

While most of us know the importance of stretching and good posture, we are often too busy to take a 1 hour break for proper workout session. When you spend all day in front of the computer, just make sure you take a 5 min break every 2 hours and simply stretch at your desk!

With this quick and easy yoga stretch, you can improve your posture while reducing work related stress and injuries without leaving your desk. Follow these 4 simple exercises 3 times a day:

Begin by moving to the edge of your chair with your feet flat on the floor. Bring your stomach in and imagine reaching for the ceiling with the top of your head. Feel that your collarbones are reaching out towards the sides of the room and try to create as much space from your ears to your shoulders as possible. Then perform these 4 exercises:

1. Chin Tuck. Bring your chin inwards as if you are making a “double chin” but keep reaching the top of the head towards the ceiling, hold it and take 3 deep breaths.

2. Ear to Shoulder Stretch. Tilt your head to one side bringing one ear towards the shoulder and use your hand to apply gentle overpressure, hold it and take 3 deep breaths.

3. Cross Legged Stretch. Bring your foot across the body to rest on the opposite knee. Sit tall and lean forward from the hip until you feel a stretch in the gluteal area or back of the hips, hold it and take 3 deep breaths and switch sides.

4. Prayer Stretch. Bring your hands to together in a prayer position in front of the chest so the palms are together. Keeping the hands together, raise your elbows as much as possible. Make sure you hold chin to throat and your shoulders remain relaxed. Hold this position and take 3 deep breaths.

Here’s a video on Office yoga. Practice every day for 5 days and let me know how it affects you in the comments below.
